As part of the Transport Evolution Africa Forum & Expo, the Women in Transport Awards has evolved into the Transport Evolution Africa Awards. Running in Durban on 21 September 2023, the awards will bring together Africa’s most renowned transport industry professionals, many of them longstanding attendees of the Transport Evolution Africa Forum & Expo.

This platform will recognise, reward and celebrate the success of trailblazers who are transforming the transport sector, as well as those who have made significant impact in terms of driving enterprise development, sustainability, and inclusivity.

2023 AWARD CATEGORIES

INDIVIDUAL CATEGORIES WOMEN IN TRANSPORT

Rising Star Award
Awarded to an emerging individual under the age of 40, who has made a significant impact in the transport industry, who has shown significant qualities and exceptional growth in contribution to the profession and increased to levels of leadership and responsibility.

Who can be nominated?

This award is open to any woman in transport under the age of 40 in operations or supporting functions (i.e., Finance, HR, IT, Legal, etc).

The candidate can be an entrepreneur, a corporate professional or a government official.

CRITERIA
- A woman who is excelling in the transport and logistics industry.
- A woman who has made valuable contributions to the overall excellence/effectiveness of their business or organisation
- The candidate who has achieved tremendous success in their transport business or organisation in the past 3 years
- The candidate should have strong business and interpersonal skills.
Women Excellence in Leadership
This award goes to a woman who has demonstrated excellent leadership and is a role model for women leaders in the workplace and encourage development of young professionals in the workplace.

The award is open to woman everywhere in the transport and logistic value chain.

Who can be nominated?

Women leaders from government, transport operators, supporting role ( i.e legal, IT, Finance, HR etc.) and logistic companies and services.

The candidate can be an entrepreneur, a corporate professional or a government official.

CRITERIA
- History of exceptional leadership that has facilitated, encouraged, or motivated other women to deliver great results.
- Willingness to go “above and beyond” the conventional parameters of an established role for the sake of helping and inspiring others.
- The individual that has shown a clear path of initiative and growth within the organisation over the last couple of years by spearheading an idea or project.
- The individual should stand for transformational spirit within the transport value chain: Logistics/ freight/ clearing/ warehousing/ procurement/ supply chain.
Women Mentor of the Year
This award recognises a unique person that demonstrated an outstanding passion of mentoring women in transport and logistics.

Who can be nominated?

Women leaders from government, transport operators, supporting role ( i.e legal, IT, Finance, HR etc.) and logistic companies and services.

The candidate can be an entrepreneur, a corporate professional or a government official.

CRITERIA
- A woman that has mentored and encouraged women to build careers in transport and logistics and is a champion of women in the industry.
- The candidate should have personally coached and mentored an individual/s in transport and logistics for the advancement of their career.
- The candidate must be empowering the next generation of women in transport.
- The candidate must be a pioneer whose longstanding and continuous support of women in transport and logistics has led to impactful and measurable change.
- Candidate need to have two/three case studies in where verification can be obtained

INDIVIDUAL CATEGORIES GENERAL

Inclusive Leadership Award
This award recognises any woman or man that has actively committed to advancing the progress of women working in transport and logistics.

Who can be nominated?

Leaders from government, transport operators, supporting role ( i.e legal, IT, Finance, HR etc.) and logistic companies and services.

The candidate can be an entrepreneur, a corporate professional or a government official.

CRITERIA
- The candidate must be championing gender equality and women empowerment.
- The candidate that has promoted female employees in their career advancement.
- The Candidate that has delivered gender balance in their organisation.
- The candidate must have been an active and visible change agent by being part of the wider industry conversation to achieving gender balance.
Technology Innovator Award
This award is open to a person who has led an innovative project that that has or will change the transport and logistics sector for the better, including improved efficiency, cost and driving innovation within the sector.

CRITERIA
- Awarded to a candidate designing, developing, researching, implementing or being exceptionally creative with technology within the Transport and Logistics Industry
- The candidate has played a pivotal role in transforming or improving the transport and logistics landscape with an innovative technology
- Candidate, need to showcase two case studies on the impact of technology in terms of efficiency in the supply chain movement (Cost, time and resilience)

ORGANISATIONAL CATEGORIES

Best Sustainability & ESG Programme Award
The award will be awarded to an organisation that implemented a programme or technology that has incorporated a sustainable outlook.

Who can be nominated?

Any organization within the transport sector that has had considerable impact on either environmental or social sustainability on their community.

CRITERIA
- The programme has a clear strategy in place that demonstrates innovation and sustainability in the transport sector.
- An organisation that has proven plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
- An organisation that is making an exemplary contribution to sustainability within the transport sector.
- An organisation that is working at achieving sustainable development goals.
Best Equity, Diversity and Social Inclusion Programme Award
This award recognizes an organization that has demonstrated exceptional commitment to the promotion of equity, diversity and inclusion in the transport and logistic industry.

CRITERIA
- An organisation that promotes diversity, equity and social inclusion in their own operations.
- An organisation that is promoting and supporting people with disability.
- An organisation that created an environment in which individuals and their ideas are respected and valued without bias.
Best Port & Terminal Operator Award
This award is open to all African port operators both public and private.

CRITERIA
- Entries should outline the operators focus on operational efficiency and effectiveness and the ability to demonstrate best practice in the port sector.
- The port with the fasted turnaround time.
- The operator enabling seamless transfer of ships and their cargo from one terminal to another.
- The most safe and secure port in Africa
Rail Operator Award
This award is open to all African railway operators.

CRITERIA
- Entries should outline the operators focus on operational efficiency and effectiveness and the ability to demonstrate best practice in the rail sector.
- Customer Service, including the management of disruption, overcoming historical problems
- Punctuality and reliability.
- Safety achievement.
- Transferability across the railway.
Road Operator Award
This award is open to all African road operators.

CRITERIA
- Entries should outline the operators focus on operational efficiency and effectiveness and the ability to demonstrate best practice in the road sector.
- Effective road maintenance management
- Excellent road safety
