AfCFTA2
Accelerating African Integration: Unleashing the Potential of Transport Services under the AfCFTA

The panel session aims to shed light on the critical role of transport services within the context of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). The AfCFTA is a historic agreement that seeks to create a single continental market for goods and services, with the potential to transform Africa’s economic landscape. Effective transport services are essential for realizing the AfCFTA’s goals, as they facilitate the movement of goods, people, and capital across borders.

This panel session will bring together experts from various sectors to discuss the challenges, opportunities, and strategies for optimizing transport services under the AfCFTA. The session will also serve as a platform for stakeholders to engage in constructive dialogue, share insights, and forge collaborations to unlock the immense potential of transport services in realizing the goals of the AfCFTA. This is in line with the African Union (AU) theme of the year (2023) which is the “Acceleration of AfCFTA Implementation”.

OUTCOMES

  • Comprehensive understanding of the current state of transport services in Africa and their significance in the context of the AfCFTA.

  • Identification of key challenges, bottlenecks, and gaps in the transport infrastructure and regulatory frameworks that need to be addressed to facilitate trade.

  • Policy recommendations for governments, regional bodies, and stakeholders on how to enhance transport services in alignment with the AfCFTA.

  • Strategies for ensuring that transport services contribute to sustainable development and are accessible to all, including marginalized communities.
